Dubus/ Killings

Dubus/ Killings

I feel that Matt should not have killed Strout. This act of revenge makes Matt no better than Strout. Strout felt that he was justified in killing Frank due to him finding Frank with his wife. Matt felt justified in killing Strout because Frank was his son. The murder of Frank was tearing his family apart. Matt’s wife Ruth could not go out and see her sons murderer and be okay with it, she was torn up inside every time she saw him living his life while her son was buried in the ground.

I had many mixed emotions on what was happening in this story. The first emotion that I can honestly say that I felt was sadness for the family of Frank. I am a parent of two children and I can honestly say that if anyone was to hurt my children I would probably want to see them suffer as well. I understand the pain and confusion that Matt was feeling when they were driving to Strout’s house. Matt wandered if he should just send him away and if that would be enough. I feel that he really did not want to have to kill Strout and that if there was any other way out he would have taken it.

The title of Killings is more appropriate than Killers because neither of the people who committed the murders were actually killers. I feel that the two men who did perform these acts were just ordinary people protecting their families. I do not think they would kill anyone else they had committed crimes of passion on a one time basis.

I was kind of surprised to find out that Matt’s wife Ruth was in on the killing of Strout from the beginning. Ruth wanted to know all the details of how the killing happened. I found that very shocking.
